I can see such happening here. In this case, we have the traditional meaning of fasting (anticipation of the kingdom of God) and Jesus' argument that such had become unnecessary because of the arrival of the messiah and how we deal with it in our time. I am in particular impressed by the reason behind fasting - the anticipation of God. I think I have found the key to fasting. I have the understanding that fasting as a representation of "repent" and "urgency" in one's prayer. However, now when I see it as an anticipation of God's coming, it seem to fit even better and have expanded the horizon in this practice.
